Cycling with Parkinson's

An article in the New York Times covers some research on how patients with Parkinson's, people who cannot walk unassisted, are able to ride a bike! It is very cool so check it out!

  1. My father in law has parkinsons. I'll send this to my wife. Thanks for finding it!

  2. I saw my grandfather suffer most of my life with Parkinsons. He would sometimes be able to do things for short times and would get accused of "faking it". I wish we'd known more when he was suffering but unfortunately much of the research is new. Cool stuff.

  3. I thought this was amazing research! The video of that guy struggling to walk and then pedaling around with no problem is cool. Can you imagine how he must feel to move with such freedom under his own power?

I can't wait to see what they discover about why cycling 'movement' is so different in the brain than walking, etc.

  4. That would be amazing to see, I still can't help but feel sad when I look back at how much my grandpa suffered. A big lean, muscular guy who became crippled and couldn't do anything for himself. Early on the shaking was bad but it's the later stuff that is so horrible to watch.
